Saying Yes! is a panfandom fanwork fest devoted to fic and art where all forms of sex are wanted, enjoyed, and celebrated by all the characters involved. Too often in both original and fanfiction (and by extension, the real world), anything outside of a very strict vanilla, heteronormative script is shamed and mocked. Characters—especially women and/or ‘submissives’—often grudgingly ‘give in’ to a partner’s desires so as not to cause conflict within a relationship, not because they want to participate in that form of sex. Consent is not granted with joy and excitement, but coerced and given with reservation (if it’s given at all). Not only does this have problematic implications when it comes to consent, but it implies that sex—especially kinky sex—is something to be ‘given’ to one partner to gratify their desires alone, not something to be shared and celebrated between partners.
Saying Yes! revolves around works that show that there is nothing shameful in being submissive or in wanting non-traditional things from sex, that consent should always be given with enthusiasm from all parties throughout the entire act, and that all sex acts (whether vanilla or not) should always be mutually desired—not just because it’s right, but because it’s just a whole lot more fun if everyone is all in.
